Dutton has stitched a portrait of her mother when after the WW2.(Dutton.2018) She stitched this portrait while taking care of her mother who was developing dementia, her mother often would watch her stitch.(Dutton.2018) Hence Dutton would stitch pictures from her mother's photo albums to help her recognise familiar faces.(Dutton.2018) She has also portrayed her mother smiling as a form of optimism for her mother and her during this dark time  Dutton has carefully snitched the features of her mother carefully with details such as her hair but from her blouse onwards her stitching becomes more abstract and the threads are hanging loose from the canvas. This could represent her mother's gradual loss of details of her memories.
